Camping, fishing, hiking, or exploring the cultural sites associated with the country's most visited unit of the National Park System - these are all great ways for children and families to spend quality time. Parkway rangers and volunteers know how to engage the young visitor with the right questions and challenges to make the most of an hour or a week on the Blue Ridge Parkway!

Junior Ranger Program

During the season, young visitors may participate in the Parkway's "Junior Ranger Program" and earn a badge and a certificate. This is an excellent way for children to interact with a ranger, learn about protection of the national park, and participate in activities that help protect the Blue Ridge Parkway. While visiting the Peaks of Otter (Milepost 86), ask about "Fishing With A Ranger" in Abbott Lake. Junior Geologist programs with a ranger are available at the Museum of North Carolina Minerals based on new and exciting exhibits.
