Closures
The National Prisoner of War Museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day (December 25th) and New Year's Day (January 1st).
Special Programs
A 27-minute audio-visual program entitled "Echoes of Captivity" is available for viewing every 30 minutes from 9:00 a.m until 4:30 p.m. An audio driving tour is available for a $1.00 rental fee from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This one-hour tour provides specific information on the historic prison site and Andersonville National Cemetery.
Exhibits
The National Prisoner of War Museum exhibits are organized by themes that are common to all prisoners of war. The first exhibit asks the question, "What is a POW?" This exhibit is followed by others entitled, Capture, Journey to Camp, Living Conditions, News and Communications, Those Who Wait, Privation, Morale and Relationships, Escape and Freedom. The central corridor contains more specific interpretation of Civil War prisons and Andersonville National Cemetery. There is also a research library at the museum that contains primary and secondary sources on Andersonville Prisoners and other Prisoners of War.
